A bidder bought a Vita electric powerboat donated by HSH Prince Albert for more than one million euros at the third Monte-Carlo Gala for the Oceans, held in Monaco on Thursday, September 26. The proceeds from the sale of a total of 32 lots have been donated the the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation to spend on combatting climate change.

The Vita IX has 130kWh of liquid cooled lithium battery storage and a 360bhp electric twin water jet drive. This launch sports the distinctive red of the Principality’s flag and has the Prince’s personal monogram on the steering wheel. The IX model was the first powerboat to achieve a ClearwaterTM Gold Standard rating for its minimal impact on our oceans and cruises at 20 to 30 knots, according to plugboats.com.

The star-studded evening included Robert Redford, who was honoured for his environmental work, and featured performances by Gwen Stefani, Andrea Bocelli and Kool & the Gang. Since its birth in 2006, the Foundation has contributed 55 million euros towards fighting the effects of climate change.
