Two French nationals have been jailed after being convicted of using ketamine in Monaco, following an incident that began when emergency services were called to a home in the Principality…

The pair, both around 30, appeared before Monaco’s Criminal Court on Friday, August 21. Emergency services had been contacted four days earlier by the mother of one defendant, who was concerned about their condition. At hospital, both reportedly admitted consuming ketamine but refused blood and urine tests. Police subsequently found four syringes at the residence, three of which tested positive for the drug.

As reported by Monaco-Matin, both defendants denied in court that they had consumed ketamine in Monaco, maintaining that they had taken drugs earlier in Menton. Prosecutors disputed their account, citing medical evidence, witness statements and a video recorded on the night in question which showed both in an apparently dazed condition.

One of the defendants, who had received a six-month suspended sentence for similar offences in July, was sentenced to four months in prison, with the previous six-month sentence also revoked.

His co-defendant was acquitted of possession but received eight days in prison for drug use. Both were also banned from entering Monaco for five years and returned to custody following the hearing.
