Elie Okobo has officially completed his move to Dubai Basketball, signing a multi-year deal with the EuroLeague newcomer after four seasons at AS Monaco, the club confirmed on Friday, July 17.
The departure of the 28-year-old French guard marks the end of a hugely successful spell on the Rocher, one that saw Okobo establish himself as one of the most decorated players in Monaco’s recent history. Since joining in 2022, he helped the club win back-to-back French championships in 2023 and 2024, the French Cup in 2023, where he was named Final MVP, the 2026 French Cup, the 2026 French Leaders Cup, where he again claimed MVP honours in the final, and the 2025 French SuperCup. He capped his time at the club by being named MVP of the 2025-26 LNB Élite season, the league’s top individual honour.
Okobo’s exit adds another significant name to the list of departures Monaco has seen this summer, as the club works to reduce its wage bill amid an ongoing financial crisis that has placed its very participation in next season’s competitions in doubt. He joins Mike James, Matthew Strazel, Jaron Blossomgame, Alpha Diallo and Terry Tarpey among the players to leave the Roca Team in recent weeks, as Monaco awaits the outcome of both its court hearing on July 31 and its appeal before the French Basketball Federation on July 20.
For Dubai Basketball, the signing represents a major statement of intent as the club enters just its second EuroLeague season, adding a reigning league MVP with a proven track record of winning trophies to its roster.
While Monaco will now turn its attention to rebuilding around a squad in transition, Okobo departs the Principality as one of the most successful imports in the Roca Team’s recent history, leaving behind a trophy cabinet few of his teammates can match.
