One of Monaco’s most storied luxury hotels has opened a new chapter this spring, with Hôtel Hermitage Monte-Carlo revealing a collection of redesigned suites and a brand-new bar as part of a major renovation programme launched by Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer in 2024.
At the heart of the update is the transformation of seven signature apartments, now elevated to Diamond Suite status within the SBM collection. Originally created in 2004 by the Pierre-Yves Rochon architectural firm and SBM’s own Engineering and Design Office, the suites have been reimagined by the same creative partnership — Pierre-Yves Rochon and Artistic Director Karine Bouaziz working alongside SBM’s Luc Leroy and Stéphanie Rainaut — to offer a contemporary reinterpretation of Belle Époque living. Versailles-style parquet flooring, Calacatta marble bathrooms, Auberley & Laurent mouldings and a palette of aqua, blue and beige set the tone throughout.
Two suites stand out from the collection. The Diamond Suite Princely spans 283 square metres across three terraces overlooking the Port of Monaco and the Prince’s Palace, with a living room, a dining room for up to eight guests and a master bathroom clad in white onyx, complete with a freestanding hydrotherapy bathtub, sauna, hammam shower, Baccarat crystal fittings and Lalique wall sconces designed by Rochon himself. The Diamond Suite Presidential, at 151 square metres, is organised around a central living room and two bedrooms, with a whirlpool tub facing the sea and a Calacatta Oro marble shower among its standout features. The two suites sit on the hotel’s seventh and top floor and can be connected to form a 434-square-metre residence accommodating up to eight guests across four bedrooms, four bathrooms, two living rooms, a study and a dining room.

Alongside the suites, the renovation has also delivered 40 new rooms and suites, and a new bar — Gustave — now open beneath the hotel’s celebrated Eiffel dome in the Winter Garden. Designed by interior architect Shirine Zirak across five spaces including a new terrace, Gustave takes its aesthetic cues from 18th-century Parisian salons, with a checkerboard stone floor, wrought-iron furniture and an abundance of greenery echoing the spirit of the original Jardin d’hiver. The cocktail menu, inspired by Art Nouveau and the great Parisian café tradition, was created by Head Bartender Julien Lecharpentier, with a particular focus on forgotten spirits. Gustave is open daily from noon to 1:00, with live music Thursday through Saturday from 18:00 to 22:30.
SBM has indicated that the renovation of Hôtel Hermitage Monte-Carlo will continue, with a further chapter expected to follow in spring 2027.
