His Serene Highness Prince Albert II travelled to Budapest on Friday to take part in the opening of the 55th General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees (EOC), one of the most important gatherings on the continental sporting calendar…

The event brought together representatives from 49 National Olympic Committees and was attended by newly elected International Olympic Committee President Kirsty Coventry. Discussions focused on the future of Olympic sport in Europe and preparations for several major competitions scheduled over the coming years.

Among the key topics were the 2027 European Games in Istanbul and the upcoming Games of the Small States of Europe, which Monaco will host in May 2027. The assembly provided an important platform for organisers to present progress and coordinate preparations for these flagship events.

HSH Prince Albert II’s participation underlined Monaco’s active role within the Olympic movement and its commitment to international sporting cooperation. The Principality is already preparing to welcome athletes and delegations from across Europe for the Games of the Small States, an event expected to showcase Monaco’s sporting infrastructure and organisational expertise.

The Budapest meeting also offered an opportunity for Olympic leaders to exchange views on the challenges and opportunities facing sport in Europe while strengthening ties between national Olympic committees ahead of a busy international calendar.
