Grimaldi Forum welcomed members of the Princely Family, athletes and leading figures from across the Principality for the premiere screening of The Rock of Champions on Wednesday, May 28, a new documentary exploring Monaco’s remarkable impact on international sport.

Directed by Yann-Antony Noghès, the film shines a spotlight on twelve athletes connected to Monaco who have made their mark at the highest level across disciplines including Formula 1, tennis, swimming, cycling and boxing.

The documentary examines how the Principality — despite being the world’s second-smallest country — has established itself as a recognised centre for elite sporting development and performance.

Among the sporting figures featured are several internationally known Monaco athletes whose careers have helped raise the Principality’s profile on the global stage. Through personal interviews, behind-the-scenes footage and archival material, the film traces the journeys, sacrifices and training environments that shaped their success.

Rather than focusing solely on results and trophies, The Rock of Champions also explores the wider sporting ecosystem that exists within Monaco, including infrastructure, coaching, education and the close relationship between sport and national identity.

The screening attracted a large audience at the Grimaldi Forum and forms part of Monaco’s broader effort to highlight local sporting excellence and inspire younger generations of athletes in the Principality.

Sport has long occupied a central place in Monaco’s international image, from Formula 1 and tennis to Olympic competition and aquatic sports, with the documentary aiming to explain how such a small territory continues to produce athletes capable of competing at the highest level worldwide.
