A demanding endurance challenge returned to Monaco this weekend as participants took part in the 4x4x48 Challenge in support of the Princess Charlene Foundation…
The concept is simple but punishing; run four miles, or just over six kilometres, every four hours for 48 hours, turning the event into a test of stamina, discipline and collective spirit.
More than 40 people were on the start line for the opening run on Friday evening, with participants then heading back out at regular intervals through the night and across the weekend. By the end of the challenge, around 100 people had taken part overall, while 24 managed to complete all 12 rounds.
Originally inspired by a concept popularised in the United States, the challenge has grown into a charity event that combines physical effort with fundraising for a good cause. In Monaco, organisers once again linked the event to support for the Princess Charlene Foundation, which is closely involved in projects promoting water safety and the wellbeing of children.
Participants said the group atmosphere helped carry runners through the hardest stages, particularly the overnight starts and repeated return to the course with little time to recover. While the distance itself was manageable for experienced runners, the real difficulty came from maintaining the rhythm over two full days.
More than a race, the event became a shared effort built on resilience, encouragement and solidarity, with every lap helping to raise money for charity.
