Slovenia House in Cortina d’Ampezzo hosted a high-level roundtable this week examining the future of winter sports and the urgent need for sustainable development across the sector…

Amongst the leading figures in attendance was His Serene Highness Prince Albert II, an IOC member and President of the IOC Commission on Sustainability and Legacy, who joined fellow international decision-makers to discuss long-term strategies for protecting winter sport.

The discussion brought together Johan Eliasch, President of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation and IOC member, and Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, former President of Croatia and President of the IOC Commission for Future Hosts. Moderated by Alja Brglez, President of the Slovenian Olympic Committee’s Commission for Sustainability in Sport, the roundtable focused on the environmental and economic pressures facing winter competitions worldwide.

Participants explored how climate change, infrastructure demands and evolving audience expectations are reshaping the way winter sports must be organised and delivered. There was broad consensus that responsible governance, innovation and collaboration between sporting bodies, host cities and governments will be essential to ensure the long-term viability of winter events.

Monaco’s continued involvement in these discussions reflects its strong commitment to sustainability in sport and its active role within the Olympic movement, as global stakeholders work to secure a resilient future for winter disciplines.
