The Roca Team tightened their grip on top spot in the Betclic Elite standings after edging past nearest challengers Nanterre 81–76 at a packed Paris La Défense Arena on Sunday, February 15. In front of more than 17,000 spectators, Monaco secured their 11th consecutive league victory and preserved their unbeaten record away from home.
Despite missing key names from the rotation, including Mike James, Monaco once again demonstrated the depth and composure that have defined their domestic campaign. Head coach Vassilis Spanoulis entrusted a starting five featuring Matthew Strazel, David Michineau, Alpha Diallo, Jaron Blossomgame and Daniel Theis — and they responded with a disciplined and collective performance.
The opening exchanges were scrappy, with both sides struggling to find rhythm. Monaco’s ball circulation, however, began to pay dividends. Elie Okobo and Alpha Diallo attacked the rim with intent, while Daniel Theis imposed himself inside. Strong defensive sequences, including blocks from Nikola Mirotic and Theis, helped the visitors establish early control.
Monaco gradually found their shooting touch, with Juhann Begarin and Nemanja Nedovic contributing from beyond the arc. The Roca Team increased their physicality in the second quarter, drawing fouls and converting from the free-throw line. Okobo remained particularly influential, orchestrating play and finishing in transition as Monaco went into halftime with a slender advantage.
After the break, Monaco appeared sharper and more composed. Blossomgame opened the third quarter with a three-pointer, and Strazel added to the tally as the visitors stretched their lead into double digits. Nanterre, spurred on by the home crowd, attempted to mount a comeback late in the game, eventually drawing level in a tense fourth quarter.
With the momentum threatening to swing, Monaco turned to their experience. Daniel Theis delivered crucial offensive rebounds and finishes in traffic, while Okobo nailed a decisive long-range shot in the closing minutes. Blossomgame added a timely floater, and Theis capped the performance with a key defensive stop to extinguish Nanterre’s final hopes.
The 81–76 victory not only confirms Monaco’s status as Betclic Elite leaders but also reinforces their authority as the team to beat this season. With confidence high and consistency firmly established, the Roca Team continue to set the pace at the top of French basketball.
