Following his visit to Ceva in Piedmont, His Serene Highness Prince Albert II continued his journey through northern Italy with a stop in Millesimo, a medieval village in the Liguria region closely linked to the early history of the Grimaldi family…

Nestled in the green hills between the Ligurian coast and Piedmont, Millesimo is ranked among Italy’s most beautiful villages and is renowned for its medieval heritage, Napoleonic past, and celebrated black truffles. For the first time in its history, the town welcomed a reigning Head of State, marking a significant moment for the local community.

During his visit, the Prince walked through the village’s cobbled streets, visited the Napoleonic museum, and toured the Del Carretto Castle, an ancestral site connected to Aurelia del Carretto. Her marriage to the Grimaldi family in the late 13th century is widely regarded as a foundational chapter in the dynasty’s history.

The visit coincided with market day, drawing residents, schoolchildren, and visitors together for a warm and heartfelt welcome. Many locals expressed pride at hosting the Sovereign, praising both the historic importance of the occasion and the Prince’s approachability.

Visibly moved by the reception, Prince Albert II highlighted the deep historical ties between Millesimo and Monaco, while also underlining the importance of building future cultural and economic collaborations.

With Millesimo now officially joining the Italian network of Historic Grimaldi Sites, local officials see new opportunities for tourism development and international visibility, reinforcing the enduring links between the Principality and its ancestral roots in Liguria.
