An early-morning fire at a restaurant in Monaco’s Fontvieille district triggered the precautionary evacuation of a nearby medical facility on Monday, January 26, though authorities confirmed that no one was injured and patient safety was never compromised, Monaco-Matin reports.
Shortly before 10:00, emergency services were alerted to smoke coming from the Tre Scalini restaurant, located on Quai Jean-Charles Rey at the Port of Fontvieille. The incident occurred as staff were preparing the premises ahead of the lunchtime service, when flames reportedly broke out above the dining area, within the ceiling structure, producing heavy smoke.
Monaco’s fire brigade was rapidly deployed, sending a substantial response to the scene. Within minutes, firefighters had contained the blaze, which was described as limited in scope, and prevented it from spreading. No casualties were reported among restaurant staff or emergency personnel.
Because the building also houses the private Monaco Hemodialysis Center on its upper floors, smoke infiltration prompted an immediate evacuation of the medical facility as a safety measure. Eighteen patients undergoing treatment at the time, along with thirteen members of staff, were guided out of the building in a controlled and orderly operation.
Medical teams interrupted dialysis sessions and ensured that all patients were safely disconnected and accompanied with their necessary equipment. Nearby premises were temporarily made available to allow caregivers to complete essential procedures away from the smoke, avoiding any medical risk. According to those overseeing the evacuation, regular emergency drills helped staff respond efficiently and calmly.
Once the fire had been extinguished, firefighters ventilated the medical center and carried out air quality checks to confirm the building was safe. Patients scheduled for treatment later in the day were able to attend their appointments as normal, while those evacuated earlier were advised to return home.
The following morning, the Tre Scalini restaurant remained closed as employees assessed the damage and carried out clean-up operations. Power had not yet been fully restored, and no timeline for reopening was immediately available.
Public Security authorities have opened an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.
