Following the tragic incident that occurred in a bar in Crans-Montana on New Year’s Eve, the Prince’s Government has moved to strengthen prevention and safety measures in Monaco’s nightlife venues….

For several weeks now, regular inspections have been carried out in nightclubs and late-night establishments across the Principality. One such inspection took place in the early hours of Saturday 24th January morning at NYX Monte-Carlo, on Rue des Citronniers. While the venue was operating at full capacity, a technical committee, accompanied by officers from Public Security and representatives of the Monaco Fire and Emergency Service, conducted a series of checks focused on fire safety and regulatory compliance.

Inspectors verified that emergency exits were accessible, fire detection and alarm systems were operational, and that the establishment’s operating licence and late-night permits were in order. Staff were also reminded of emergency procedures, including how to react in the event of a fire and how to prioritise the safe evacuation of customers.

The venue’s management welcomed the inspection, stressing that safety measures had remained unchanged since opening and that all regulatory requirements were being respected. According to the authorities, six establishments were inspected on the same night, with around twenty more scheduled for checks in the coming weeks. Additional inspections are also planned ahead of the summer season, particularly for venues that operate only during peak tourist months.

In parallel with these controls, the Minister of State has requested amendments to current regulations to ban the use of all pyrotechnic devices in enclosed public spaces, including handheld flares and spark effects. The objective, the Government says, is to further reduce risks and ensure that Monaco’s nightlife remains both vibrant and safe for residents and visitors alike.
