This Sunday, 18th January, HSH Prince Albert II was the guest of honour at the 22nd Fête de l’Olive et de l’Huile in the village of Buis-les-Baronnies, in France’s Drôme region, a celebration dedicated to local olive-growing traditions and regional heritage…

The Sovereign joined a traditional procession through the village streets, accompanied by the sound of drums, before attending Mass at the Notre-Dame de Nazareth church alongside local officials, members of regional confraternities and residents. The event, which attracts producers and visitors from across the area, highlights the importance of olive cultivation to the region’s cultural and economic identity.

Later in the morning, Prince Albert II was formally inducted as a knight of the Confrérie de l’Olivier, an honour recognising his presence at the festival and his support for agricultural traditions linked to Mediterranean culture.

The ceremony concluded with visits to exhibition stands and exchanges with producers, reinforcing the close ties between the Principality and neighbouring French regions that share common culinary and rural heritage.
