The Principality is preparing to prohibit the use of all pyrotechnic devices in enclosed public spaces, reinforcing Monaco’s already strict approach to safety in venues hosting concerts, nightlife and large public gatherings…
For many years, Monaco has operated under a tightly controlled regulatory framework governing establishments that create musical and festive atmospheres. This includes rigorous safety standards, frequent inspections and close monitoring by specialist technical services, ensuring that risks linked to crowd management, fire prevention and emergency evacuation remain tightly managed.
In the wake of the New Year’s Day fire at the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana, the Minister of State has moved to further strengthen preventive measures in the Principality. The Technical Commission for Hygiene, Safety and Environmental Protection has been instructed to carry out additional inspections of relevant venues, while operators are being reminded of the importance of strict compliance with fire safety rules and evacuation procedures.
Alongside these measures, the government has asked for the rapid preparation of a regulatory amendment that would formally ban the use of all types of pyrotechnic devices indoors, including flares. The objective is to remove any residual risk associated with the use of such equipment in confined spaces where smoke, heat and crowd density can quickly create dangerous conditions.
The decision reflects Monaco’s long-standing culture of anticipation and risk management, relying on the expertise of its technical services and detailed knowledge of local venues, with the aim of maintaining the highest possible level of protection for residents, workers and visitors alike.
