Former Formula 1 driver Adrian Sutil has been arrested in Germany as part of a wide-ranging international investigation into suspected large-scale fraud and breach of trust…

According to reporting by Bild, the 42-year-old Monaco resident was taken into custody in Sindelfingen before appearing before a judge in Stuttgart, who ordered his detention.

German prosecutors confirmed that multiple properties were searched across Germany, Switzerland and the Principality of Monaco as part of the investigation. The case is being handled by the Baden-Württemberg criminal police in coordination with international authorities. While exact details of the charges have not yet been made public, investigators suspect aggravated fraud and organised breach of trust.

Since stepping away from top-level motorsport more than a decade ago, Sutil had largely remained out of the public eye. In recent years, he was reportedly active in the luxury car trade and maintained a high-profile lifestyle in Monaco. He previously attracted attention in 2020 following a high-value road accident involving a limited-production hypercar in the Principality.

The arrest marks the second major legal chapter in Sutil’s life. In 2011, he received an 18-month suspended sentence following a nightclub altercation with businessman Eric Lux during a Formula 1 weekend.

Between 2007 and 2014, Sutil competed in 128 Grands Prix with Spyker, Force India and Sauber, earning a reputation as a capable midfield driver. For now, his motorsport legacy is overshadowed by an unfolding legal case that could take months to fully clarify.
