A must-visit destination during the school holidays, Monaco’s Oceanographic Museum has unveiled three exciting new features designed to enhance the visitor experience and celebrate the Principality’s ongoing commitment to ocean preservation…
The inauguration took place on Thursday evening during a special “Soirée de Reconnaissance,” attended by His Serene Highness Prince Albert II.
The first innovation introduces a new audiovisual system in the museum’s historic conference room, where “the walls now speak.” Through listening terminals and projected visuals, visitors can hear the voices of great figures from Monaco’s past, including witnesses from the reigns of Prince Albert I, Prince Rainier III, and HSH Prince Albert II, each sharing reflections on their dedication to protecting the oceans. A ten-minute film also plays intermittently, offering insights into the museum’s storied history and its role in advancing marine science.
Another highlight of the evening was the reopening of the museum’s emblematic 36,000-litre aquarium, newly renovated and renamed in honour of Professor Jean Jaubert, who directed the museum from 2004 to 2007. The project required months of delicate work to rebuild the tank and carefully preserve the coral specimens it houses, a true technical feat that pays tribute to Jaubert’s pioneering contributions to marine biology.
Finally, new plaques were unveiled to recognise the museum’s long-standing patrons and partners, whose continued support sustains its educational and environmental mission.
These additions reaffirm the Oceanographic Museum’s role as both a hub of marine culture and a family favourite, blending science, history, and discovery for visitors of all ages, particularly those exploring Monaco during this week’s school holidays.
