A new chapter in the preservation of Monaco’s harbourfront heritage has begun, as the Prince’s Government launched a major restoration of the roof terrace atop the Quai Hirondelle building on Port Hercule.
Overseen by the Department of Public Works, this ambitious operation — scheduled for completion in spring 2026 — aims to safeguard the building’s structure, enhance waterproofing, and ensure its long-term resilience against the elements. The project also promises to improve the comfort and aesthetic quality of the spaces housed beneath one of the port’s most recognisable terraces.
Throughout the works, life along the quay will continue uninterrupted. The popular restaurant U Luvassu, along with MYP and Monaco Riviera Navigation, will remain fully accessible. Construction activity will be limited to the rooftop, with a discreetly secured and signposted area ensuring there is no disruption to pedestrian flow or the daily rhythm of the port.
The initiative has been carefully coordinated with the Société d’Exploitation des Ports de Monaco, the Department of Maritime Affairs, French Customs, and the building’s tenants, reflecting the Principality’s characteristic precision in balancing urban maintenance with public convenience.
Once complete, the refurbished roof terrace will not only protect the building from future weather-related wear but also contribute to the continued upkeep and visual appeal of Monaco’s iconic harbourfront.
