Monaco is moving ahead with the final phase of coastal protection works at Larvotto Beach, set to begin in October 2025…

Following on from the efforts undertaken last winter, the Princely Government will now remove the remaining geotubes, temporary sand-retention structures, and replace them with three permanent rocky islets. These new breakwaters will better protect the shoreline against erosion while enhancing the beach’s stability and resilience for decades to come.

In keeping with Monaco’s commitment to sustainability, the new structures will be eco-designed to encourage marine biodiversity, creating habitats for local flora and fauna rather than simply acting as barriers. The works are scheduled to run until April 2026, but beachgoers need not worry: Larvotto will remain open throughout the project. Only a small section of the beach will be temporarily cordoned off in October to allow for equipment access.

To ensure safety at sea, a limited exclusion zone will be set up where swimming and diving will be prohibited during specific intervention phases. Meanwhile, restaurants, cafés and boutiques within the Larvotto complex will continue operating as normal, meaning sunseekers can still enjoy seaside lunches, shopping and strolls without disruption.

With this final phase, the Principality reinforces its long-term vision: protecting its coastline while offering residents, visitors and businesses an ever more attractive waterfront.
