Monaco has lost one of its most recognisable real estate figures. Antonio Caroli, the Italian-born developer who left a lasting mark on the Principality’s skyline, passed away on Friday, October 3, at the age of 77.

An engineer by training, Caroli founded the Caroli Group in the 1970s and went on to play a central role in Monaco’s urban development for more than four decades. From luxury residences to ambitious commercial projects, his influence helped shape the city-state during a period of rapid transformation.

Beyond bricks and mortar, Caroli also contributed to Monaco’s media landscape. Through his group, he published two local titles — L’Observateur de Monaco and Monaco Hebdo — both of which provided influential voices in the Principality’s press.

News of his death circulated rapidly on Friday morning before being confirmed by multiple sources. Tributes have since poured in, reflecting the breadth of his impact, both as a businessman and as a fixture of Monaco’s public life.

Antonio Caroli is survived by family, colleagues and many who worked alongside him during his long career.
