Monaco has officially launched its annual campaign for vehicle registration renewal, a key step for all motorists in the Principality…

From September 1st until December 31st, drivers must update their registration by obtaining the traditional stamp, affixed both to license plates and registration certificates, that validates their right to drive into the new year.

As Bertrand Vanzo, head of the Traffic Documents Service, explained, the renewal process has been simplified with an emphasis on digital tools. Motorists are strongly encouraged to complete the procedure online, the most efficient option, though it is still possible by post or directly at the department’s new premises on the Promenade de l’Honoré II.

Around 143,000 vehicles are registered in Monaco, including nearly 6,000 electric cars, which continue to benefit from free registration. For all others, costs vary: individuals typically pay from €50 upwards, while fees for professional vehicles can rise to €2,000 depending on engine size.

Authorities also reminded residents that failing to renew by December 31 will result in the vehicle being removed from the register. While it is possible to reapply in January, the process is more costly and time-consuming, making prompt renewal the best option.

In addition to modernizing the system, efforts are under way to further dematerialize the stickers, reducing printing needs and enhancing security. Current stamps are tamper-resistant, tearing if removal is attempted, making theft difficult.

The Traffic Documents Service is open continuously from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, ensuring easy access for all users. Officials urge motorists not to delay, noting that timely renewal guarantees peace of mind and avoids unnecessary penalties.
