The Nouveau Musée National de Monaco (NMNM) has unveiled a captivating new exhibition titled The Roaring Twenties of Coco Chanel, exploring the iconic designer’s relationship with the French Riviera and her revolutionary role in shaping modern fashion…
Running until October 5th across three floors of the Villa Sauber, the exhibition celebrates a pivotal decade during which women began to break free from traditional codes of style; and Chanel was at the forefront of that movement.
Through original garments, archival material, and immersive installations, the exhibition traces Chanel’s creative evolution during the 1920s, when she spent significant time in the South of France and was inspired by the elegance, leisure, and artistic energy of the Côte d’Azur. Visitors are invited to rediscover how Chanel redefined femininity through freedom of movement, simplicity of form, and understated elegance.
The exhibition also features contemporary sculptor Chloé Roy, whose daring works echo Chanel’s spirit of liberation. Roy’s sculptures play with the idea of balance and constraint, often using stiletto heels as structural crutches to explore the complexity of the female body. Her multi-layered creations blur the lines between mannequins, animals, and abstract forms, presenting a metamorphic study of identity and representation.
On the upper floor, a striking video installation captures a dancer moving before a distorting mirror, offering a poetic exploration of body image and transformation—serving as both performance and sculptural study.
Together, the pieces in this thoughtful and imaginative exhibition reflect the enduring influence of Coco Chanel and the continued evolution of feminine expression through art, movement, and fashion.
