In preparation for French President Emmanuel Macron’s official state visit to Monaco on Saturday, June 7 and Sunday, June 8, the Principality has undergone a patriotic transformation. French and Monegasque flags now line the streets, fluttering in tandem as a symbol of the enduring diplomatic ties between the two nations.
The large-scale display, coordinated by Monaco’s Municipal Technical Services, has seen flags and banners installed across key locations in the city. In total, 216 banners have been mounted—103 bearing the French tricolour and 113 representing Monaco. An additional 116 standalone flags have been hoisted, including 48 French and 68 Monegasque. Public buildings in Monaco-Ville have also joined the tribute, adorned with 80 flags—57 French, 23 Monegasque—and a further 8 French flags placed prominently.
The ceremonial display is not only a gesture of welcome but a visible reminder of the close historical and political ties that bind the Principality to the French Republic. The dual-flag installations symbolise a relationship founded on mutual respect and shared European values.
The flags will remain in place through the conclusion of President Macron’s visit, with takedown scheduled for June 8, 9 and 10. The work will be handled by teams from the Municipal Technical Services and City Events departments, ensuring a smooth and respectful end to the commemorative display.
President Macron’s visit marks a significant moment in Franco-Monegasque relations and is expected to include formal meetings with His Serene Highness Prince Albert II, discussions on regional cooperation, and symbolic gestures of goodwill between two neighbours long linked by history, geography, and diplomacy.
