Ongoing marine engineering works at Monaco’s Larvotto beach have hit a weather-induced snag, forcing a one-week extension to the project originally set to wrap up by Wednesday, April 30. Due to several days of rough sea conditions and heavy swells, crews were forced to pause operations out of caution for both worker safety and the surrounding marine ecosystem.
The works, which began on January 2, involve the removal of geotextile tubes and the creation of eco-designed rock islets intended to protect and reinforce the beach’s coastline. They will now continue until Wednesday, May 7, according to Monaco’s public works authorities.
As a result, swimming and diving remain temporarily off-limits in designated areas around the construction site. Clear signage and updated maps have been provided to ensure public safety during the extended phase of the operation.
Despite the disruption, the beachfront’s restaurants and shops are open as usual, unaffected by the marine restrictions. Crews will continue working between 6:00 and 22:00 daily to complete the reinforcement efforts, which aim to secure the shoreline and ensure safe access to bathing zones in the long term.
Mother Nature may have had the final say this week, but the project’s finish line is now firmly in sight.
