The Grimaldi Forum Monaco will bring a vibrant new dimension to the summer season with Colours!, an extraordinary exhibition dedicated to the modern history of colour in 20th-century art…
Running from July 8 to August 31, 2025, the exhibition is curated by Didier Ottinger, Deputy Director of the National Museum of Modern Art, and will feature over one hundred masterpieces from the prestigious Centre Pompidou collection.
Visitors will embark on a multi-sensory journey through artworks by around thirty iconic artists, including Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Sonia Delaunay, Vassily Kandinsky, Amedeo Modigliani, and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Colours! aims to transform the experience of art by encouraging visitors to engage not just visually but also through sound and scent, thanks to innovative collaborations with composer Roque Rivas and perfumer Alexis Dadier, working alongside Fragonard.
At the heart of the exhibition, seven monochromatic spaces will be animated by original sound compositions and olfactory atmospheres, creating a deeply immersive environment that redefines how color is perceived. Enhancing the experience further, Marion Mailaender will design special installations incorporating iconic design pieces by Ron Arad, Jean Prouvé, Ettore Sottsass, and Philippe Starck, blurring the lines between art, design, and everyday life.
The scenography for Colours! has been conceived by William Chatelain, Head of Space Studies and Design at the Grimaldi Forum Monaco, ensuring a bold and contemporary setting worthy of the exceptional works on display. Promising an unforgettable cultural highlight, Colours! will reaffirm Monaco’s place as a major destination for art lovers this summer.
