As part of the centenary celebrations of the Cité internationale universitaire de Paris (CIUP), the Fondation de Monaco played a leading role in marking the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace with a special event highlighting the unifying power of sport…
Organised by Mme Martine Garcia-Mascarenhas, Director of the Fondation de Monaco, and Bertrand Rebours, Head of Sports at the CIUP, the event brought together 150 attendees including students, staff, and figures from the sporting world.
Held in the Salon Honnorat of the Maison Internationale, the programme featured the screening of La Flamme de la Paix, a Monaco Info documentary produced with the support of Peace and Sport. Five internationally recognised “Champions for Peace” – Marlène Nidecker, Diana Gandega, Laurence Fischer, Zakia Khudadadi, and Pascal Gentil – shared their personal testimonies on sport as a powerful vehicle for peace and resilience.
The event also included the presentation of a special award to Alix Merolle, an exceptional student and Vice President of the CIUP Residents’ Committee, in recognition of her commitment to promoting sport for peace throughout her four years on campus.
A symbolic and unifying moment concluded the celebration as attendees, including CIUP President Jean-Marc Sauvé, Spanish Consul General Manuel Durán Giménez-Rico, and Paris Université Club Co-President Marian Romero, took part in the #WhiteCard campaign. This collective gesture echoed the values of tolerance, respect, and unity at the heart of both the CIUP and Peace and Sport’s mission.
