A new refrigerated truck has been delivered to Menton Humanitarian Firefighters, strengthening the charity’s ability to provide food assistance to vulnerable families across the Menton, Roya and Bévéra regions…

The vehicle was financed largely through the generosity of the Principality of Monaco and officially unveiled during a visit by His Serene Highness Prince Albert II and Minister of the Interior Lionel Beffre.

Founded 36 years ago during the Romanian Revolution, the organisation has since responded to humanitarian crises ranging from earthquakes and tsunamis to floods, including Storm Alex, which devastated parts of the Alpes-Maritimes. Today, much of its work is focused on supporting families experiencing financial hardship, with demand for food assistance continuing to rise.

The new refrigerated vehicle will enable volunteers to transport significantly larger quantities of fresh and frozen food from regional food banks and suppliers. The charity currently supports 83 families, compared with around 20 before Storm Alex, providing subsidised food baskets for a symbolic €5 contribution.

Replacing a smaller truck that had served the organisation for two decades, the new vehicle offers an additional 12 cubic metres of capacity as well as freezer storage, allowing the charity to expand its operations and respond more effectively to growing needs across the region.
