From June 17 to 21, the Café de Paris hosted its annual Spanish Week, a celebration that carried special significance this year as Monaco and Spain mark 150 years of diplomatic relations…

The event also served as a prelude to the historic Grand Départ of La Vuelta 2026, which will take place in Monaco next August. The highlight of the week was a gala evening celebrating the anniversary of Monaco’s diplomatic mission in Spain. Guests were invited to discover the richness and diversity of Spanish culture through gastronomy, traditions and regional specialities. Iberian ham, Canary Islands delicacies and dishes featuring ingredients such as black potatoes and king crab showcased the variety of Spain’s culinary heritage.

Organisers described gastronomy as one of the most effective ambassadors of cultural exchange, helping to strengthen friendships and understanding between nations. Months of preparation went into the event, which reflected the deep historical ties between Monaco and Spain.

Speakers also highlighted the longstanding relationship between successive Monegasque sovereigns and Spain, noting that generations of princes have helped foster mutual understanding through official visits and cultural exchanges. Particular mention was made of the travels of Prince Albert I, whose links with Spanish regions contributed to the enduring relationship.

Set against the elegant backdrop of the Café de Paris, the celebrations offered a fitting tribute to a century and a half of friendship, cooperation and shared history between the two countries.
