Monaco is preparing for a period of exceptionally hot weather, with authorities warning that a heatwave is expected to affect the Principality over the coming days.
As temperatures are forecast to remain high both during the day and overnight, the Monegasque Government is calling on residents and visitors to take extra precautions, particularly when it comes to protecting vulnerable members of the community.
Health officials have warned that prolonged exposure to extreme heat can lead to serious medical issues, including dehydration, heat exhaustion and heatstroke. Infants, young children, pregnant women, older adults and people living with chronic health conditions are considered especially at risk.
Those working outdoors, participating in sporting activities or spending extended periods in the sun are also being encouraged to take preventive measures.
Authorities recommend avoiding strenuous physical activity during the hottest parts of the day, staying indoors where possible, keeping homes cool by closing shutters and windows, drinking water regularly and cooling down frequently. Residents are also being asked to check in on elderly neighbours, relatives and anyone who may be isolated during the heatwave.
The Government has stressed that community vigilance will play an important role in ensuring everyone remains safe as temperatures rise.
In the event of heat-related illness or any medical emergency, the public is reminded to call the European emergency number, 112.
