The Lycée Albert Ier staged the fifth edition of its Shakespeare Festival at the historic Fort Antoine Theatre, with students from the international section bringing two of William Shakespeare’s most celebrated works to the stage…

Around twenty students performed abridged versions of Othello and As You Like It, combining tragedy and comedy in front of an audience of parents, teachers and theatre enthusiasts. Inspired by New York’s famous “Shakespeare in the Park,” the festival has now become a much-anticipated annual tradition within the school community.

Students described the project as both enriching and demanding, highlighting the complexity and beauty of Shakespeare’s language. Beyond theatre itself, the performances also reflected the strong sense of community within the international section, where older and younger students work closely together throughout months of rehearsals.

This year’s edition carried particular significance after a challenging academic year marked by relocations and the absence of a permanent school site for students of Lycée Albert Ier. Despite those difficulties, teachers and students remained determined to continue the festival.

Bathed in the late afternoon light overlooking the Mediterranean, the performances once again transformed Fort Antoine into a spectacular open-air stage celebrating culture, language and youthful creativity in Monaco.
