Monaco launched its first digital forum on April 10, opening a public conversation on the growing impact of technology in everyday life…
While digital tools bring undeniable benefits, the initiative aims to raise awareness of the risks that come with increased screen use, particularly on social media.
The event brought together experts and the public to better understand these challenges and encourage more responsible digital habits. Health professionals, including Dr Thomas Altos and Dr Jean-François Goldbroch, highlighted the wide-ranging effects of excessive screen time. These include physical issues such as sleep disruption and fatigue, as well as psychological impacts like irritability, reduced concentration and, in some cases, depression linked to online harassment.
Speakers also pointed to broader consequences affecting family life, education and professional environments, where overuse of digital tools can lead to disengagement or absenteeism. The message was clear: while technology is now inseparable from daily life, it requires awareness, balance and informed use.
The forum is designed as an ongoing initiative, with future sessions set to explore topics such as cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. By encouraging open dialogue and education, the government hopes to equip residents with the tools needed to navigate an increasingly digital world safely and responsibly.
