Workers marched through the streets of Monaco on Friday in a demonstration led by the Union of Trade Unions of Monaco, bringing renewed attention to concerns over wages, pensions and purchasing power.

Carrying red union flags, protesters held a large banner reading “Pensions are wages. Wages are the future of pensions,” underscoring the link between current earnings and future retirement income. The message reflects union concerns that salary levels are not keeping pace with the rising cost of living, with potential consequences for long-term financial security.

The group moved in an organised procession through central areas of the Principality, drawing attention from passers-by and local media. Several participants wore high-visibility vests, indicating the involvement of organised labour representatives.

The USM has publicly called for mobilisation over issues including wage levels and pension protections. In its messaging, the union has warned that workers risk bearing the brunt of any future changes to retirement systems if safeguards are not maintained.

Friday’s demonstration highlights ongoing dialogue between labour representatives and authorities over social and economic policy in Monaco, particularly around maintaining purchasing power and ensuring the sustainability of the pension system.
