Monaco marked the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace on April 6 by reaffirming its support for the global #WhiteCard campaign led by Peace and Sport, highlighting the role of sport as a powerful tool for inclusion, dialogue and solidarity…

Supported by the Princely Government, the initiative encourages individuals and institutions worldwide to recognise how sport can promote respect, equality and peaceful coexistence. The White Card symbol stands in contrast to traditional penalties in sport, representing fair play and positive values that extend far beyond the field of competition.

The Prince’s Palace was illuminated in white on April 6 to mark the day, a symbolic gesture in support of the global #WhiteCard campaign led by Peace and Sport.

The 2026 campaign, launched in late March, brings together athletes, organisations and communities across the world. Activities are being held across multiple continents, including in Burundi, Montenegro and Colombia, as well as at international institutions such as the United Nations. High-profile athletes continue to play a key role, using their influence to spread the message to younger generations.

His Serene Highness Prince Albert II, a committed advocate of sport and a former Olympian, also demonstrated his support over the weekend by attending a Monaco United Peace and Sport match, reinforcing the Principality’s active engagement with the initiative.

In a global context marked by uncertainty and conflict, the campaign underscores how sport can create spaces for dialogue and understanding, offering a simple yet effective pathway towards building more peaceful and inclusive communities.
