The Monaco Audiovisual Institute welcomed Minister of State Christophe Mirmand for an official visit to its premises on Boulevard du Jardin Exotique, offering a closer look at its work preserving the Principality’s film and audiovisual heritage…

Founded in 1997 and directed by Vincent Vatrican, the Institute plays a central role in safeguarding Monaco’s visual memory. Its mission extends beyond simple archiving, encompassing the collection, restoration, conservation and promotion of a wide range of materials, including historical footage, photographs, documents and contemporary recordings.

During the visit, Christophe Mirmand was able to explore the facilities and gain insight into the technical processes involved in preserving fragile media formats. Particular attention was given to the digitisation efforts that ensure long-term access to Monaco’s audiovisual history, making it available to both researchers and the wider public.

The Institute also contributes to the production and preservation of current content, notably through its collaboration with Monaco Info, helping to document the Principality’s evolving story in real time.

This visit highlighted the importance of maintaining a strong cultural infrastructure capable of protecting Monaco’s heritage while adapting to modern technologies. The Audiovisual Institute continues to serve as a vital link between the Principality’s past, present and future.
