The 51st Monaco Criterium delivered a record-breaking edition this weekend, drawing its biggest field yet to the Principality’s iconic port circuit for one of the standout fixtures on the local cycling calendar…

Set against the backdrop of Monaco’s famous streets, the race once again mixed atmosphere, technical difficulty and strong competition, with riders tackling a demanding course in the heart of the city.

The event brought together competitors of different ages and levels, reflecting the broad appeal of cycling in Monaco and the federation’s efforts to support the sport from youth development through to elite competition. Organisers highlighted the criterium’s importance not only as a sporting contest, but also as a showcase for cycling on a circuit that remains instantly recognisable well beyond the Principality.

This year’s race took on extra significance with the course also linked to the wider profile of Monaco on the international cycling map. The port circuit offered a fast, technical setting that demanded concentration and consistency over repeated laps, producing another intense edition of a race long seen as a favourite among both riders and spectators.

Victory went to Italian rider Mattheo Baldini, who claimed his first win in Monaco in a finish decided by the narrowest of margins. He crossed the line just ahead of his closest rival after a tightly fought contest, ending the race with a dramatic photo finish.

Beyond the result, the strongest headline from this year’s criterium was the scale of participation, with organisers reporting a significant rise in entries and a record number of riders on the start line.
