A significant police operation took place in Monaco on the evening of Thursday, March 12, drawing attention from residents in the Moneghetti district as authorities carried out a judicial reconstruction connected to an attempted murder case.

The operation unfolded around Place Lamarck, near the border with Beausoleil, where a large number of officers were deployed for several hours. According to information first reported by Monaco-Matin and later confirmed by the Monaco public prosecutor’s office, the activity formed part of an investigative procedure aimed at reconstructing the events of a violent incident that occurred in December 2024.

On the night of December 1, 2024, shortly after 21:30, a passerby discovered a man in his forties lying injured in the street in the same area. The victim, who lives in Beausoleil and works in Monaco, had suffered stab wounds to the abdomen and thigh but remained conscious when emergency services arrived.

Later that evening, police arrested a suspect from Menton within Monaco. The individual was taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder and, two days later, was formally charged by an investigating judge before being placed in pre-trial detention at Monaco’s prison.

The reconstruction conducted this week is part of the ongoing investigation into what has become known as the “Sri Lankan case.” According to prosecutors, the exercise was organised to recreate the circumstances of the incident as closely as possible and to compare the differing accounts provided by the victim and the accused.

The operation involved several judicial and law enforcement figures, including the investigating judge overseeing the case, a representative of the public prosecutor’s office, officers from Monaco’s Public Security department, as well as the victim, the accused and their respective legal representatives.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue working to clarify the sequence of events surrounding the attack.
