The Automobile Club de Monaco has announced that the 2026 edition of the E-Rally Monte-Carlo will not take place, marking a temporary pause for the all-electric event that had been scheduled for October 14–17 and was set to feature on the Bridgestone FIA ecoRally Cup calendar.

According to organisers, the decision was taken after careful consideration and reflects a broader reassessment of the rally’s future direction. The club said it wants to ensure that any future edition aligns fully with its sporting standards as well as the technological and environmental ambitions that originally shaped the event.

Eric Barrabino, General Commissioner of the ACM, explained that the pause will allow time to evaluate how the competition can evolve alongside emerging mobility technologies. The club, he noted, has long been involved in promoting electric rallying and alternative energies, but now believes the moment is right to wait for further advances — particularly in new energy solutions — before relaunching the rally.

First introduced in 1995, the E-Rally Monte-Carlo gradually established itself as one of the leading international regularity rallies dedicated to electric and alternative-energy vehicles. Over the years it attracted a large and competitive field of teams, manufacturers and drivers, becoming a key event for demonstrating the practical capabilities of low-emission vehicles.

Jacques Rossi, president of the ACM’s New and Electric Energies Commission, highlighted the rally’s legacy as an important platform for innovation in sustainable motorsport. However, he noted that taking a break now would allow organisers to rethink how the competition can remain relevant as vehicle technologies and energy systems continue to evolve.

The ACM stressed that suspending the 2026 edition does not signal any retreat from its commitment to sustainable mobility. Instead, discussions are already underway about how the rally might return in the future with a format that reflects the next stage of innovation in electric and alternative-energy vehicles.

Organisers also used the announcement to thank the many drivers, manufacturers, partners, local authorities and volunteers who have supported the rally for more than three decades.

For now, the E-Rally Monte-Carlo joins the long list of iconic motorsport events created by Monaco’s automobile club, but its organisers are clearly determined that when it returns, it will do so with a renewed technological vision
