Concern is mounting within Monaco’s media community following reports that the monthly magazine L’Observateur de Monaco may be ceasing publication…
In a joint statement, the Monaco Journalists’ Union and the Monaco Press Club expressed alarm at the potential disappearance of a title that has been part of the Principality’s media landscape for more than two decades.
While the closure has not yet been officially confirmed, both organisations warned that losing the publication would represent a significant blow to press diversity in Monaco. They also highlighted the broader challenges currently facing the printed press, where rising production costs, declining advertising revenue and the rapid shift toward digital platforms continue to place traditional media under pressure.
The union and the press club stressed that independent publications remain essential to the vitality of public debate and to maintaining a pluralistic media environment. They therefore called on potential buyers or investors to come forward in order to safeguard the future of the magazine and preserve the jobs and expertise of the journalists involved.
For many observers, the situation reflects the wider difficulties confronting print media around the world, as long-established publications struggle to adapt to new consumption habits.
