Young parliamentarians from across the Francophone world gathered in Monaco this week for the first-ever meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie’s (APF) youth network to be held in the Principality…

At the invitation of the National Council, 16 representatives took part in two days of discussions and exchanges focused on key societal issues and the role of parliamentary diplomacy.

Created in 2018, the network brings together young, elected officials who share a commitment to public service and political engagement, united by the common language of French. The meeting provided an opportunity to strengthen dialogue between Francophone parliaments while encouraging multilateral cooperation in an increasingly complex global environment. Among the topics addressed were environmental protection, the impact of social media, youth exposure to screens and the challenges posed by emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.

For Monaco, hosting the gathering also offered a chance to highlight the Principality’s priorities and institutions on the international stage. Participants met with representatives from Monaco’s National Youth Council and the municipal council, creating space for debate and the exchange of ideas with younger generations.

Discussions reflected the importance of sharing experiences between countries, with examples ranging from environmental initiatives abroad to policies promoting gender equality.

The meeting forms part of Monaco’s broader engagement in international dialogue, as the Principality continues to play an active role within Francophone institutions and prepares for further diplomatic responsibilities, including its upcoming presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.
