A familiar voice from Monaco’s recent past is echoing once again, as the writings of the late Molly Brown have been brought together on a new website dedicated to her work…
Brown, a long-time resident of the Principality, was widely known for her column Monaco Murmurs, which appeared in The Riviera Reporter for nearly 30 years. Published six times a year and circulated throughout Monaco and the French Riviera, the column offered witty, insightful and often independent reflections on life in the Principality. Through her writing, Brown chronicled Monaco’s evolving social life, its changing skyline and the sometimes spirited debates surrounding its architectural heritage.
Following her passing in 2019, readers across the community remembered Brown not only for her journalism but also for her strong character and sharp sense of humour. A former teacher with a background in journalism, she was deeply engaged with Monaco life and never afraid to speak out, particularly when historic buildings such as the Sporting d’Hiver faced demolition.
Now, thanks to her daughter Clare, the full archive of Monaco Murmurs has been carefully assembled and made available online at monacomurmurs.com. The site gathers decades of columns in one place, offering readers a nostalgic window into Monaco as seen through Brown’s distinctive voice.
For long-time residents and newcomers alike, the collection provides a lively record of how the Principality has changed over the past four decades, and a fitting tribute to one of its most memorable commentators.
