Carnival spirit filled the streets of La Condamine on Mardi Gras as the Monaco Smiley association staged a joyful parade in support of hospitalised children across the Principality…

Princess Caroline Street came alive with costumes, confetti and music as families gathered for a colourful afternoon dedicated to spreading smiles and raising awareness of the association’s work. Organised for the first time in this format, the Monaco Smiley Carnival attracted residents of all ages, transforming the pedestrian district into a lively celebration. Volunteers, children and families embraced the festive atmosphere, whilst the association used the occasion to highlight its year-round mission: supporting young patients facing illness or hardship.

Monaco Smiley volunteers visit children at Princess Grace Hospital twice a week, offering games, conversation and moments of distraction designed to ease anxiety for both children and their families.

Beyond entertainment, the association plays a meaningful role within Monaco’s healthcare network. Its mascots and soft toys are distributed across emergency and medical services in the Principality, helping young patients express pain and emotions more easily to healthcare staff and psychologists. The initiative strengthens communication between children and caregivers whilst bringing comfort in stressful situations.

The carnival also featured a parade of classic Fiat 500 cars and lively cheerleading performances, adding to the festive atmosphere and drawing enthusiastic crowds. Funds raised during the event will help sustain Monaco Smiley’s initiatives, ensuring the association can continue delivering comfort, connection and moments of joy to children across Monaco’s hospitals and care centres.
