Wrestling in Monaco is stepping into the spotlight as AS Monaco (ASM) Wrestling prepares to compete in the upcoming European Championships this spring…

One of the oldest Olympic disciplines, wrestling continues to attract a growing number of enthusiasts in the Principality, where the club now counts around one hundred licensed members across all age groups.

Combining strength, technique and discipline, the sport is rooted in respect and camaraderie. Matches begin and end with a handshake, reinforcing the strong sense of community that defines the wrestling family in Monaco. Many young athletes have discovered the sport through family influence or local clubs, inspired by experienced coaches and former champions who continue to pass on their knowledge and passion.

Among them is Grigorii Buliga, a veteran world champion in Greco-Roman wrestling, who trains the next generation with a focus on rigorous preparation and injury prevention. Warm-ups and physical conditioning remain essential elements of training, ensuring athletes are ready for the intense demands of competition. Several wrestlers have already secured national medals, reflecting the steady progress of the discipline locally.

This year marks a significant milestone, as Monaco will be represented at the European Championships for the first time by one of its athletes. With determination high and preparations well underway, the ASM Wrestling section is aiming to demonstrate its growing strength on the international stage whilst continuing to develop the sport at grassroots level within the Principality.
