Monaco is preparing its roads for a busy spring on the international sporting calendar, with an extensive resurfacing campaign set to run from February 16 to March 19. The works, led by the Department of Urban Planning, aim to ensure optimal safety and surface quality ahead of upcoming automotive and cycling events, including the Formula 1 Grand Prix and the exceptional hosting of the Vuelta cycling race.

This year’s programme is broader than in previous editions, reflecting both the scale of the Grand Prix preparations and the added logistical demands of welcoming a major international cycling competition. Officials have confirmed that all works will take place exclusively at night in order to minimise disruption during peak hours.

Temporary road closures, lane restrictions and parking suspensions will be introduced in stages throughout the Principality. Clear signage will be installed in affected areas, and residents will receive specific information regarding access adjustments near their homes.

Emergency services and police will retain full access to all zones at all times. Pedestrian routes will remain open and clearly marked throughout the works. Bus services operating on impacted routes will be diverted from 20:00 onwards, with updated schedules communicated by the Compagnie des Autobus de Monaco. Motorists affected by temporary parking closures may request alternative spaces in nearby public car parks.

The resurfacing campaign will move through different districts over five weeks. Works begin in Monaco-Ville during the week of February 16, before progressing through the Port, Fontvieille, the Larvotto and Monte-Carlo areas. Key traffic hubs including Boulevard Albert Ier, Avenue J.F. Kennedy, the Portier roundabout, Avenue Princesse Grace and several major tunnels will be temporarily affected on designated nights.

Although the schedule involves a series of short-term inconveniences — including overnight road closures between approximately 20:00 and 6:00 in many areas — authorities stress that the objective is long-term road durability and safety for residents, visitors and competitors alike.

With Monaco preparing to welcome global audiences once again, the resurfacing works form part of the Principality’s annual effort to maintain its streets at the highest international standard.
