His Serene Highness Prince Albert II played a prominent ceremonial role at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games on Saturday, February 7, presenting medals during two major events on the opening weekend of competition…
At the Stelvio Ski Centre in Bormio, the Sovereign awarded the medals following the men’s downhill in alpine skiing, held on one of the sport’s most iconic and demanding pistes. Switzerland’s Franjo von Allmen claimed gold, with Italy’s Giovanni Franzoni securing silver and compatriot Dominik Paris taking bronze to the delight of the home crowd.
Later in the day, Prince Albert II also presented medals at Livigno Snow Park after the men’s big air snowboarding final. Japan celebrated a dominant performance, with Kira Kimura taking gold and Ryoma Kimata earning silver, while China’s Su Yiming completed the podium with bronze.

The Prince also took time to support Monaco’s athletes, meeting skier Arnaud Alessandria following his return to Olympic competition. Alessandria finished 31st in the downhill, an encouraging result after a long recovery from injury that had sidelined him for several months.
Speaking after the race, Prince Albert II praised the Monegasque athlete’s determination and resilience, expressing pride in his performance and confidence ahead of the upcoming Super-G event.
The Sovereign’s presence throughout the opening days of the Games underlined Monaco’s ongoing commitment to the Olympic movement and its athletes competing on the world stage.
