Monaco is celebrating a landmark diplomatic anniversary in 2026, marking 20 years since the establishment of its Embassy in Washington, a milestone reflecting the Principality’s enduring presence and growing ties in the United States…
The commemorative year also coincides with the 250th anniversary of the United States, offering a timely opportunity to highlight the depth of relations between the two nations. Beyond symbolism, the anniversary underscores a diplomatic relationship rooted in cultural exchange, innovation and ongoing dialogue between institutions and civil society. As part of the celebrations, a memorandum of understanding will be signed this spring with America250, the bipartisan body coordinating national events for the United States’ anniversary. The signing will take place at the Ambassador’s Residence, once home to the 29th US President Warren G. Harding, followed by a reception bringing together institutional partners and friends involved in the commemorations.
The year also marks the 70th anniversary of the marriage of HSH Prince Rainier III and Grace Kelly, a union that remains a powerful symbol of the human and cultural bond linking Monaco and the United States. In collaboration with the Princess Grace Foundation USA and the Smithsonian Institution, a new cultural initiative will highlight the enduring legacy of Princess Grace, with particular attention paid to Philadelphia, her birthplace.
Throughout 2026, events across Washington, New York and other partner cities will include institutional meetings, cultural programmes and philanthropic initiatives. Monaco will also issue a special series of commemorative stamps celebrating the historic friendship between the two nations.
