The 28th Monte Carlo Historic Rally delivered a dramatic finale on Saturday, February 7, with Spain’s Luis Climent Asensio and Carles Jimenez Valls emerging victorious after a decisive performance on the legendary Col de Turini. At the wheel of their BMW 323i, the duo overturned the standings in the closing stages to claim one of the most prestigious wins on the historic rally calendar.
Starting the final night outside the provisional podium, Climent Asensio and Jimenez Valls produced a controlled yet assertive drive during the event’s most demanding test, often referred to as the “Night of Turini.” Their consistency and precision on the decisive stage proved crucial, allowing them to take command of the rally as rivals faltered under pressure.
The outcome was shaped further by challenging weather conditions in the Alpes-Maritimes, which led organisers to shorten the final regularity stage. Managing the conditions carefully, the Spanish crew secured their overall lead and confirmed victory before the cars returned to Monaco.
Behind them, France’s Ludovic De Luca and Sébastien Chol finished second, while Monaco’s Olivier and Lydia Campana delighted home supporters by claiming third place in their Volkswagen Golf GTI — the pair’s first podium finish in the Historic category.
This year’s edition will be remembered not only for its suspenseful sporting outcome, but also for its revised format. The introduction of closed roads, higher average speeds and an expanded range of eligible vehicles brought the event closer to modern rally standards, a shift widely praised by competitors. Many described the experience as reminiscent of World Rally Championship conditions, while maintaining the spirit and heritage of historic motorsport.
With more than 200 crews classified at the finish and strong public attendance along the route, the Monte Carlo Historic Rally once again demonstrated its enduring appeal. From the starting cities to the mountain passes and iconic roadside stops, the event blended competition, nostalgia and spectacle.
As crews and spectators alike reflected on a demanding yet memorable week, attention already turned to the next chapter. After a landmark edition defined by innovation and drama, the Monte Carlo Historic Rally now looks ahead to 2027 with renewed momentum.
