Monaco City Hall hosted its traditional reception on Thursday, January 22, welcoming those who acquired Monegasque nationality during the course of 2025, either by law or by Sovereign Ordinance.

The event was held in the Wedding Hall in the presence of Mayor Georges Marsan, accompanied by members of the City Council, who formally greeted the new citizens during a ceremony centred on shared values and attachment to the Principality.

Organised annually by the Municipality, the reception is an important moment in Monaco’s institutional calendar. It provides an opportunity to officially welcome new nationals while highlighting the meaning and responsibilities associated with acquiring Monegasque nationality.

During the ceremony, guests were presented with an overview of the role and functioning of the Municipal Institution. Mayor Marsan then presented each new citizen with a selection of symbolic gifts reflecting Monaco’s heritage and traditions. These included a reproduction of the national anthem written in 1931 in the Monegasque language by Louis Notari, the booklet Aiço d’aiçi II featuring traditional songs performed by the Children’s Choir of the Rainier III Academy and the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as a signed and numbered lithograph of Saint Devota by artist Claude Rosticher.

The reception concluded with a performance of the Monegasque Anthem by the Children’s Choir of the Rainier III Academy.

In total, 170 people were granted Monegasque nationality in 2025, compared to 160 in 2024. Of these, 55% acquired nationality by descent, 33% through marriage, and 12% by Sovereign Ordinance of Naturalisation. As of December 31, 2025, the Principality counted 9,961 Monegasque citizens.
