The Principality paid tribute to one of its most enduring traditions on Tuesday morning with the annual ceremony honouring Saint Sebastian, the patron saint of the Prince’s Carabiniers. The event was held in the presence of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II, alongside numerous figures from Monaco’s institutional and public life.
The commemorative Mass took place at the Cathedral of Monaco and was led by Dominique-Marie David, Archbishop of Monaco. In a solemn and reflective atmosphere, the ceremony highlighted the close historical and spiritual ties between the Principality and its military traditions.
Saint Sebastian, a Roman soldier and Christian martyr believed to have lived in the third century, is revered as one of the great military saints of early Christianity. Like Saint George, he symbolizes faith, courage and loyalty — values that continue to resonate strongly with the Prince’s Carabiniers today.
Held each year, the ceremony remains a moment of remembrance and continuity, reinforcing the role of tradition and heritage within Monaco’s modern identity, beneath the vaults of the Cathedral of Monaco.
