Monaco Mayor Georges Marsan met with members of the press on Monday, January 19, 2026, for his traditional New Year address at City Hall. Joined by several members of the Municipal Council, he used the occasion to highlight the essential role of the media in public life while outlining key achievements from the past year and priorities for the months ahead.
Speaking in a relaxed and friendly setting, the mayor reflected on a series of major projects completed in 2025. Among the most significant were the full renovation of the Marc-César Scotto Auditorium and upgrades to the lower level of the Prince Rainier III Academy of Music. He also pointed to the opening of the Caroline Media Library last December, located in the Pasteur district. The new cultural hub now offers free access to more than 200,000 books and multimedia resources to residents and visitors alike.
Large-scale municipal events also proved hugely popular over the past year. Festivities such as the Christmas Village, the funfair, and the much-anticipated return of the ice rink attracted record crowds, confirming their place in Monaco’s social calendar. Mayor Marsan also highlighted strengthened ties with Monaco’s partner cities, including Dolceacqua, Lucciana and Ostend, which led to a range of cultural and intergenerational exchange programs.
Looking ahead to 2026, the mayor outlined several major infrastructure projects aimed at improving quality of life across the Principality. These include the reopening of the Exotic Garden at the end of March following extensive safety and modernization work, the launch of renovation works at the Condamine Market Hall, and the summer reopening of Espace Lamartine. A brand-new performance venue, “Live by Léo Ferré,” is also scheduled to open in September. In addition, the Saint-Charles municipal swimming pool has officially reopened after undergoing major technical upgrades.
Social policies remain a central focus of the municipality. A new daycare center, named “IDA,” is set to open in September 2026, reinforcing support for families and early childhood development. At the same time, expanded programs for seniors will be rolled out to encourage active aging and support independent living.
In closing, Mayor Marsan thanked municipal staff for their dedication and professionalism, emphasizing their vital contribution to public service. He reaffirmed the city’s commitment to remaining a close, accessible institution that responds to the needs of residents.
The event concluded with an informal exchange between elected officials and journalists. Mayor Marsan and the Municipal Council extended their warm wishes for health, happiness, and success to all citizens and partners contributing to Monaco’s continued growth and influence.
