Monaco’s digital security agency has marked ten years of quietly strengthening the Principality’s cyber defences, celebrating the milestone this week at the Yacht Club in the presence of senior officials and HSH Prince Albert II…

Created to protect sensitive data and safeguard critical infrastructure, the agency has spent the past decade building a structured, resilient cybersecurity framework across public services and essential operators.

Speaking at the anniversary event, agency director Frédéric Fautrier explained that cyber threats against state systems and strategic infrastructure are a daily reality, even if they rarely make headlines. The priority, he said, has been to establish clear legislative and regulatory foundations, ensuring that security standards are consistent, controlled and aligned with evolving risks. From there, teams work closely with ministries and operators to reinforce networks, upgrade information systems and reduce vulnerabilities before incidents escalate.

While precise figures are difficult to quantify, Fautrier highlighted the steady rise in expertise and digital maturity across Monaco since the agency’s creation in 2016. The relatively low number of successful incidents is seen as a strong indicator that prevention and preparedness measures are paying off. Over time, cybersecurity has become embedded within the wider digital transformation of the Principality, moving from a niche technical concern to a strategic priority.

As Monaco continues to expand its digital services and connected infrastructure, the agency’s role is expected to grow further, balancing innovation with vigilance and ensuring that trust, resilience and data protection remain at the heart of the Principality’s digital future.
