Authorities in Monaco and neighbouring Beausoleil have launched a preventive evacuation of several homes on Wednesday, December 24, amid fears of a potential landslide near the former Charles-III College…

The alert was first issued on Tuesday, December 23, when local residents received notices from the Monegasque government and the City of Beausoleil, advising them to prepare for a precautionary evacuation.

By mid-afternoon on Christmas Eve, police, firefighters, and the Prince’s Carabiniers had cordoned off the road to the former college near the Odéon Tower and began organising the orderly evacuation of the affected neighbourhood. Avenue de l’Annonciade remains closed to traffic until further notice.

A small number of residents from the Le Point du Jour and Virginia Plaza buildings, as well as two properties on Boulevard Guynemer, have been relocated. Hotel accommodations are being provided for those without alternative arrangements.

A press briefing took place on December the 24th at Monaco’s Ministry of State. Government Advisor-Minister for Equipment Céline Caron-Dagioni is providing updates alongside the sub-prefect of Nice Montagne, Laura Reynaud, Social Affairs and Health Minister Christophe Robino, and Lieutenant-Colonel Tony Varo, commander of the Carabiniers and Monaco firefighters.

The government had previously announced on December 20 that students from Albert-Ier High School, attending classes this year at the former Charles-III College, would start the new term remotely in January due to safety concerns.
